Once upon a time, Elsewhere was the center of the multiverse. It was a great crossroads, and a wellspring of magical energy that flowed endlessly throughout the cosmos. The beings who lived there breathed magic, drank magic, and used magic for everything from growing crops to building impossible cities from the very earth. Some of them were magic, the energy of creation itself come to life, as though nothing were more natural.
It wasn’t long, however, before those who coveted power became envious of the magic this plane contained. A great battle for control of this magical land raged across the cosmos, with gods destroying entire planes in their pursuit of their prize. But, just as it seemed as though the multiverse itself would tear apart in the chaos, this place of magic, this crossroads, simply vanished. Not a single being could find it, and though many raged and sulked, without the prize the conflict settled into a baffled peace. Soon enough, even the reason for fighting was forgotten.
As for the plane? It had, simply put, gone somewhere else. It became Elsewhere.
Ages came and went, for the people of Elsewhere. In this land of magic, nations rose and fell, heroes fought monsters, stories happened, and were told, and told again. But a prize as rich and as tempting as Elsewhere is never truly forgotten. To those that hunger for power, even fragments of ancient myths are enough to find a pathway through the cosmos. And, as the Great Prophecy once said, nothing stays hidden forever…
